Introduction to Theory (Twinklers and Book 1 Students, any instrument)
HPSI enrolled students: $100. Non-HPSI students: $150 In this 12-week class, games and singing and theory puzzles combine to lay the foundation for a deeper musical understanding and eventual music reading. Done in typical Suzuki-fashion, musical ideas are experienced first-hand, then named and notated. Students explore melody, rhythm, and are introduced to notation and the staff. Fall Term, Mondays at 6:00 pm
Theory Level 1 (Books 2 and up, any instrument)
HPSI enrolled students: $100. Non-HPSI students: $150 This class is aimed to prepare students to take the ABRSM Theory Level 1 exam. Participating students must have begun note-reading in their private lessons. It covers note values (whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth), ties and dots, along with simple time signatures, composition exercises, treble and bass clefs. It also covers sharps, flats, naturals, and the C, G, D, and F scales with their triads, degrees, and intervals. Non-piano students will learn basic piano skills as part of their theory instruction. Fall Term, Saturdays at 10:00 am
String Reading Orchestra (Books I-II String Players) $150 Designed for students who are at levels end of Book I through Book III for their stringed instrument, this class will focus on strengthening note reading and theory for violin, viola, and cello students. Students will play fun music, learning along with friends. Tuesdays at 6:00 pm Note new time
