Traditional Instruction -Summer

Guitar (Children 3 years old and older) Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

Students learn fundamentals of guitar in a wide range of styles, including jazz, blues, classical and folk. 

30 minute private lesson and 1 hour group class

45 minute private lesson and 1 hour group class

60 minute private lesson and 1 hour group class  $500.00

Students purchase their own materials.


Harp (Children 4 years old and older) Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced
Students learn harmony/theory skills and fundamentals of harp performance in various styles which may include classical, jazz, contemporary and religious.

Students purchase their own materials. Harps available for rent and/or purchase.

30 minute private lesson and 1 hour group class

Secondary Instrument
Students with years of study on their primary instrument may study a second instrument to enhance the their overall musical knowledge and experience.  Students must be enrolled at HPSI for their primary instrument.  Students should discuss their desire to study a 2nd instrument with their instructor. Students are encouraged to attend group class but are not required to.


Student must provide their own instruments and purchase their own materials.  Participation in group classes is encouraged but not required.

Adult Lessons
Since you are "never too old to twinkle", we offer instruction in violin, viola, cello, piano, guitar and harp. Program includes weekly 30-minute or 60 minute private lessons and a performance at the end of the term.

Summer Classes

Chamber Ensemble
This class is for students who are able to read at a Book IV level or above for their instrument. The repertoire is standard string chamber music for violin, viola, cello and string bass. This performing ensemble has regular performances both at HPSI
concerts and other performing venues. Invite your friends from school or youth orchestra.  $100.00

Tuesdays 5:00-6:00 Lucinda Ali, Coach 


The following classes will be open to the public. HPSI students will be allowed to sign up first. Classes with low enrollment or attendance will be discontinued. Students will pay for their own materials. Classes start the week of July 14th.

African American Music
Students will learn about blues, jazz, spirituals, civil rights songs, slave songs, minstrelsy, rhythm and blues, gospel, and other forms of African American musical expression. Students will read and write biographies to be compiled with images, lyrics and sheet music. Recommended age 10 and up. 20 student maximum.

Saturdays, 11:00 am--12:00 pm (New Day/Time) Instructor, Rashida Black
1st class starts Saturday, July 19th.


Fiddlin'/Jazz
String players who study at Suzuki Book 2 level (or equivalent) or higher learn fundamentals of fiddling including bowing and rhythmic patterns, fingering, phrasing in preparation for a performance fiddle tunes at the end of the term recital. Students also learn fundamentals of jazz including theory and improvisation in preparation for a performance of jazz tunes at the end of the summer term recital. 25 student maximum. This class is designed for children.

1st class starts Wednesday, July 16th


Piano for Strings I
String players with no piano training learn basics of piano, note reading in treble and bass clef in a group setting on keyboards. This class is designed for children. 10 student maximum.

Thursdays, 5:30 - 6:30 pm. Instructor, Megan Lauterbach.
1st class starts Thursday July 24th.

Piano for Strings II
String players with some piano training improve piano technique and theory in a group setting on keyboards. This class will be added if demand dictates.
